Why Yuvan, why?

நல்லதோர் tune போட்டு அதை தானே பாடி, நலம்கெட புழுதியில் எரிவாருண்டோ? சொல்லடா யுவன் ஷங்கர் ராஜா

Nethiadi!
I'm guessing this post came after hearing 'sarvam' songs? Haven't heard them yet but I feel this way after most Yuvan albums.

Yuvan Shankar Raja has already spoiled two songs like this.

Oru Naalil - Pudhupettai and Yethetho - Pattiyal. If not for his voice, these songs would have become huge hits.

Adhe, adhe, Balaji!! Sarvam to me was the last straw. I mean, he comes up with these lovely tunes and then completely spoils the song by singing them. Singer selection is one area where ARR is miles ahead - he knows what songs to sing and even for songs that he does not sing, he chooses the perfect singer. May be, this is also an area where present day MDs like Yuvan should master.

Senthil, you are way too lenient when you say Yuvan has spoiled only 2 songs so far :) AIBI is one album where he sang all the songs and spoilt most of them.

Edhedho is the first song that comes to my mind when I think of songs that were butchered by Yuvan's awful singing. But at the same time, I also have to say that Ore Naalil is the one song where I feel the other way (Pogaadhe from Deepavali is one more example)

Filby,

Those are the two songs which came to my mind immediately. I'm sure the list is bigger ;) I would include Pogaadhe in my list as well.

I don't have any pronounciation issues, but Yuvan Shankar Raja's singing itself is not upto the mark, IMO.

I am on the opposite side. I like Yuvan's singing, and I love those two numbers in 'sarrvam' because of his voice. Anybody else's voice would've spoilt and made them just some other melodies.

Theriyala MrJudge, I somehow felt that he spoiled the songs with his singing. My problem is with not just his off-key singing but with the bad pronunciation as well, though I understand when you say 'just some other melodies',

Hope you know that I am one big Yuvan fan and I like his unique voice too but only when he uses it for appropriate songs (Ore naalil, Pogaadhe or even his 'Come on baby girl Mallika' bit in Kichu Kichu are some I can think of). It's just that when he butchers otherwise awesome songs like these in Sarvam, I am just too disappointed.
