Flavor of the season - Obama

Loved the mosaic/ collage below, that was made out of the first pages of newspapers from all over the world, after the historic victory. Courtesy - Obama News Mosaic. The size of the version I have uploaded here is around 5 MB while the higher resolution one is 58 MB big. Download it if you are a big-time Obama fan.

The one below is a laugh riot. My friend who came across this poster while traveling in a bus, wrote this and sent it out to us, since he could not get his camera out in time to capture the poster. The important thing to note about this poster is that this was created months before he actually became the President-elect !!

Oh...the stupidity

Recently, a potential voter asked “Can I vote for Palin and Obama?” Sounds funny, right? This was bcos apparently she thinks running for VP and running for the President are two totally separate races and that depending on how the vote on Nov 4th goes, she could enjoy an Obama/Palin presidency.

The above voter is exactly the reason why McCain went against his wishes of selecting someone like Joe Lieberman and had to pick Palin as his running mate. And yeah, no wonder this country actually re-elected Bush for a second term!

Son Of Sun

The day I landed in Madurai during my wedding trip coincided with the bday celebrations of M.K.Azhagiri. Right when our car came out of the railway station, I started wondering if we were in Madurai or we were right at the heart of some huge political party conference. The
thondargal had completely transformed the city into their backyard with cutouts and arches of Azhagiri and his family wishing him on his birthday (How ironic is that his bday coincided with the Mahatma's death anniversary, the Martyr's day)

Anyway, the fun for the general public was in the way the party workers had competed against each other, in their game of one-upmanship in praising Azhagiri (& his family members) to sky high levels and in the process, give us some well unintended comedy. Since it has been more than 4 months this happened, I just could remember the following. But trust me, if you had been in Madurai during that time, you would have had a memorable time. There were the usual suspects that you would get to see in any party function - "Udhaya suriyane", "rathathin rathame", "Engal annane" but then things got interesting as some posters cried "En idhayame", "Manitharil punithane", "Happy birthday Chellam"

But the killer ones were the ones in English. They fascinated me to no ends and the fact that I
still remember these, after all these months, should be testimony to the fact that they stood
out :)

Braveheart
Godfather
The Boss
Kingmaker
Robot
Son of Sun (this one had me in splits)

I was really amazed on how much our guys get innovative & creative when it comes to something like this. Inspite of the fact that it was such a hassle for everyone around, I am actually hoping that my next India trip will coincide with his bday again, so that I will have more such fun!!

Afghan Golf Course

I am surprised that the Bush administration hasn't claimed this (establishing a golf course in Afghanistan) as another of their success stories. Afghan golf course - what an oxymoron!!!

Rumsfield's best

As Donald Rumsfield's tenure as the Defense Secretary officially came to a close today, here are the best of Rumsfield's quotes over the past 6 years.

I would not say that the future is necessarily less predictable than the past. I think the past was not predictable when it started.

We do know of certain knowledge that he [Osama Bin Laden] is either in Afghanistan, or in some other country, or dead.

We know where they are. They're in the area around Tikrit and Baghdad and east, west, south and north somewhat."– on Iraq's weapons of mass destruction

Death has a tendency to encourage a depressing view of war.

It is unknowable how long that conflict [the war in Iraq] will last. It could last six days, six weeks. I doubt six months. - in Feb. 2003

If I know the answer I'll tell you the answer, and if I don't, I'll just respond, cleverly.
