Son Of Sun
The day I landed in Madurai during my wedding trip coincided with the bday celebrations of M.K.Azhagiri. Right when our car came out of the railway station, I started wondering if we were in Madurai or we were right at the heart of some huge political party conference. The
thondargal had completely transformed the city into their backyard with cutouts and arches of Azhagiri and his family wishing him on his birthday (How ironic is that his bday coincided with the Mahatma's death anniversary, the Martyr's day)
Anyway, the fun for the general public was in the way the party workers had competed against each other, in their game of one-upmanship in praising Azhagiri (& his family members) to sky high levels and in the process, give us some well unintended comedy. Since it has been more than 4 months this happened, I just could remember the following. But trust me, if you had been in Madurai during that time, you would have had a memorable time. There were the usual suspects that you would get to see in any party function - "Udhaya suriyane", "rathathin rathame", "Engal annane" but then things got interesting as some posters cried "En idhayame", "Manitharil punithane", "Happy birthday Chellam"
But the killer ones were the ones in English. They fascinated me to no ends and the fact that I
still remember these, after all these months, should be testimony to the fact that they stood
out :)
Braveheart
Godfather
The Boss
Kingmaker
Robot
Son of Sun (this one had me in splits)
I was really amazed on how much our guys get innovative & creative when it comes to something like this. Inspite of the fact that it was such a hassle for everyone around, I am actually hoping that my next India trip will coincide with his bday again, so that I will have more such fun!!
